First Grade Subject/Level: Week of: Weekly Monday Pre-Spelling test. Each student is given their own individualized spelling words from the
Scott Foresman and /Word Wall words:
Monday:
Write each spelling word 3 times (3X) each in pencil. A brain based learning strategy to aid in memory retention would be to write each word with colored pencils (example: cat in red, cat in blue, cat in green, cat in purple, cat in orange).
Math:
Daily assignments based on materials covered.
Reading:
Read 15 minutes nightly with your child. You may use the weekly book bag and complete the reading log sent with the book. Students will
receive two stickers for completion of this log.
Tuesday Spelling:
Write, in pencil, spelling words in abc order. ABC order will be by the first letter. This is a difficult task for first grade at the beginning of the year. Please help your child with this to make sure he/she gets off to a good start for the year. As the year progresses students should not require as much help and should do this independently.
Math:
Daily assignments based on materials covered.
Reading:
READ at least 10 minutes with your child.
Wednesday Spelling:
Write a sentence for 5 spelling word in pencil. In the beginning you will need to spend some time helping students come up with their own sentences. Again, this will get them off to a good start for the year. We are only concerned with the spelling word being spelled correctly at this point. Let your child spell the other words the way he/she thinks they sound. As we move into the year we will be looking to see how each student is progressing in the phonemic spelling of their words. You will be amazed at how quickly the spelling improves each week. We will be teaching the mechanics of writing a sentence as we go. Please help us by reinforcing them at home. (A sentence begins with a capital and ends with punctuation. It tells us something about someone or something and what they are doing.) Students will have it down pat before you know it.
Math:
Daily assignments based on materials covered.
Reading:
Read as often as possible at home with your child.
Thursday Spelling: If you have not already done so, please do your sentences or your ABC order.
Spelling test Friday
Math:
Daily assignments based on materials covered.
Reading:
Read as often as possible at home with your child.
Friday Weekly spelling test. NO HOMEWORK!
There will be times that I will be sending home work packets related to Reading Comprehension skills or Phonemic Awareness. These packets will be due on the Friday of each week. I try to send home reading/phonemic packets that will suit each students specfic needs. Please try to work with your student in completion of these packets and reinforce skills that are being taught. For each assignment completed students are
rewarded with a sticker. More stickers are awarded depending on task assigned. When their chart is fillfed students may go to the prize box.
Thank you for all the help that you give your child.
